Piano Tuning

a piano under repair
When was the last time that you actually played the piano that you have at home? If it’s been a while then there is a good chance that it could have fallen out of tune. It’s not that Pianos are going to fall out of tune because you stop playing them. It’s usually a combination of conditions that start causing the problems. If you don’t play the instrument you won’t notice the trouble. That’s why it would seem that not playing for a while could be the cause of your problems. In reality if you monitor the humidity levels and your strings are ok you could be fine.

What’s The Problem?

If you pressed down on some of the keys on your piano and you don’t like what you’re hearing be sure to give us a call so that we can come around to help. As we mentioned there are a considerable amount of situations that could be causing these problems. We usually deal with loose strings and even loose keys. Once we are able to spot what the problem is the first thing that we are going to want to do is make sure that we are able to create healthy conditions for the piano to be able to thrive.

How Often Should You Be Tuning Your Piano?

A good rule of thumb could be to go ahead and have the piano tuned once a year if the piano is in your house under “controlled” conditions. If we are talking about a piano that is in a more open area, like a church, or an auditorium you are probably looking at a tuning every 6 months. The reason why pianos in these areas need to be tuned a bit more often is that the humidity levels are usually not as predictable. You tend to be in a less controlled environment and that can cause you some trouble.

Custom Tuning Needs

Over the years we’ve gotten some interesting requests from people that are looking for their pianos to emit unique sounds. If you want to be very hands-on in this procedure you can be. You won’t have to wait until we’re done to be able to check the piano and have to call us back to make specific adjustments. We understand that there are times that you want your instrument to sound a specific way.

String Wear & Tear

When we are tuning your piano we are going to be adjusting all of the strings. It’s certainly a good moment to be able to spot any type of problem with your strings. If we find that some of the strings are worn down we can then go on ahead and replace some of these strings. In any case, tuning a piano considerably regularly could help us spot all of the potential problems that could come your way. All you are going to need to do is give us a call or contact us.
